Again, if there's any differences between what I put here and what was said on AS/the third DVD, I apologize. I'm working once again off of Rice-Box fansubs. :P --------------------------------------------------------- Amon sits in his car with Robin late at night, both apparently waiting around for someone. Robin fights to keep herself from dozing off, as she looks at still fully-awake Amon sitting in the driver's seat. Amon glances over to the dashboard clock, and comments that someone is 20 minutes late. He steps out of the car as another car approaches and Robin follows him. Amon opens the door, asking if the older man in the backseat is Inquisitor Koushon and introduces himself as a member of STNJ. Koushon doesn't seem to pay attention to Amon as he exits the car, carrying a strange suitcase with him. Amon offers to carry the Inquisitor's belongings, but once again Koushon pays no mind to him. "The air feels... heavy..." Inquisitor Koushon murmurs. Robin gives the Inquisitor a funny look before she looks up into the pre-dawn sky. [OP] Sakaki and Michael work together on finding information out on the Inquisitor who recently came to Japan, while Karasuma sleeps nearby. Their bickering ends up waking her up, and she wonders what is going on. They tell her it's nothing, and Karasuma tells them to stop looking at weird websites. Sakaki says they aren't like Kosaka. (AN: :PPPP) The scene switches over to Kosaka's desk, where a letter is taped onto the chief's monitor. Karasuma looks over Michael's shoulder, wondering why they are looking for information on Inquisitors and if it's the same inquisitor who is stopping by the office later in the day. Sakaki replies that they wanted to do further research on him, since they never get information on such things. Michael eventually gives up, unable to gather any information due to the security put in place. Karasuma tells them it's due to a Witch Inquiry that is going to be conducted--the interviewing and observation process that determines whether a witch can be trained as a hunter. Sakaki wonders who it could be, and Karasuma tells him to ask the inquisitor himself. Michael mentions that they could find out who is being "inquired" by tracing information on a particular witch. Sakaki wonders if he can try, while Karasuma wonders, "Heresy Inquiry, eh?" Amon and Robin drive towards St. Sebastian Church, where the Inquiry will be taking place. Robin is startled when the inquisitor asks Amon to stop after a traffic light. Amon tries to talk him out of leaving the car, but the Inquistior remains firm with his decision. The inquisitor leaves the car, examining a stone on the ground and murmuring in an unknown language as Robin watches him with confusion. As the inquisitor walks away, she takes a closer look at the stone and notices an N-shaped rune carved into it. Zaizen walks into the STNJ offices, asking Michael if he is the only one in the building. Michael replies that he is, and relays information given to him by Amon. The inquisitor was taken to a lodging church and is ready to begin tine inquiry, while Karasuma and Sakaki have gone off to gather the witch (Masuda Shiro) facing the inquiry--the one whose files currently sit on Michael's desk. Michael wonders by what means the inquisitor found the subject. Zaizen explains that inquisitors employ very different methods to find these subjects--something similar to what was done during the Middle Ages--and orders the witch's files to be sent over to him at once. "To see if that person can be used as a hunter or not... We can determine up to a certain point with AI, but the final decision has to be made by a human," Karasuma explains the process of how a witch may become one of the STN's feared witch hunters as she looks at the picture of Masuda. "The inquisitors are the ones with the power to make the final decision." "In other words," Sakaki replies. "The way a person thinks determines whether we recruit them or hunt them." Karasuma looks at a small map on her communicator, and tells Sakaki that this is the place where they will find Masuda. The Inquisitor sets up his inquiring machine, preparing for his interview with Masuda. Robin walks up and watches, as the inquisitor says "You came, just as I expected." He invites her to have a closer look at the machine... Karasuma and Sakaki trick Masuda into coming with them by pretending to be magazine salespeople. Masuda is frightenened by the letter Karasuma shows him from STNJ... The inquisitor explains to Robin that the inquiring machine isn't really necessary, and Robin replies that her inquiry only consisted of words. He is amused by her feelings towards her own inquiry, asking if she thought of it as nothing more than words. "Do you remember the symbol I gave you when you were Inquired by me?" he asks Robin. "Hagaru's 8 Fruits--a sacred ceremony connected to Craft's secret technique. But, that is also a forbidden fruit. By granting them the power of god and the allurement to separate lambs into angels and corrupted angels--" "God's power, Shiva." Robin interjects as the rune scratched upon the stone she saw earlier flashes before the screen, then scrolls off with several other glowing runes. The inquistor proceeds to tell Robin about her inabilty to properly understand the true identify of the Fruits of Knowledge (Hagaru's 8 Fruits, I assume?), Amon interrupts him to announce the arrival of Masuda. The inquisitor tells him that they will start immediately with the inquiry. Michael calls Zaizen's office to inform him that the inquiry is about to begin. Zaizen acknowledges him, and asks for a simultaneous broadcast to be sent to his office. Zaizen's screen lights up with an aerial view of the hallway where the Inquisitor holds Masuda's inquiry. Amon and Robin also watch from a nearby room in the church as the Inquisitor fiddles around with the inquiring machine, preparing to begin his inquiry. [Eyecatch] The inquistor begins by discussing a case the police came across two years earlier that involved a crushed corpse found in the center of Tokyo. Masuda's head remains bowed as the inquisitor continues, informing him that due to extensive damage inflicted upon the corpse the authorities had no choice but to close the case, denouncing it as nothing more than an accident. Masuda eventually gets tired of Koushon's diatribe, wanting to know what his point is. Koushon says that Masuda knowns exactly what the corpse was crushed with, but Masuda says he has no idea what he's talking about. Koushon slides a card with a rune on it down to Masuda, calling it the Stone Axe of Hagaru. He explains that he used it to free his power according to the book of Gematoria. Masuda begins breathing heavily as he begins to panic. He demands to know who Koushon is, but Koushon avoids the question by saying Masuda freed the evil which resides in Masuda's heart. Masuda begins to chant "No... no... no..." as Koushon asks him if he enjoyed crushing humans with his newly released powers. "You're wrong!" Masuda yells. "That wasn't it!" He has flashbacks of being attacked by the crushed man moments before he accidently used his powers against the human. "I just wanted to protect myself. I just wanted to run away!" Koushon doesn't buy into Masuda's story of killing in self-defense, commenting on how convenient words can be at times. Masuda's flashback shows how he crushed his attacker's head, much like one would crush an empty soda can, and says that the man wasn't "human." Koushon replies, "You're allowed to kill because he wasn't human. Was he really trying to kill you?" "If I didn't kill him, I would have been killed!" Masuda retorts, but his words fall on deaf ears. Koushon tries to convince Masuda that he killed the man simply because he could and not for self-defense, while Masuda denies it. "Death was always around you, wasn't it?" "That wasn't me!" Masuda cries out as he has flashbacks from his past, where animals who approached him would suddenly fall down dead and crushed. "I am not a monster!" "You demanded God's power," Koushon simply replies. "And became the servant of heresy." Masuda asks the inquisitor if he really believes he became a heretic, and Koushon tells him that he did it of his own free will. He begins to demand Masuda to show him "[his] true self." The voiceover of Masuda chants "I'm not a monster!" over and over, while Masuda says aloud, "My power... my true power..." Eventually, it becomes too much for Masuda as he struggles with himself to keep from lashing out against Koushon, and he loses control of himself. He tries to crush Koushon with his powers... Robin rises from her seat, calling Amon's name. Amon tells her to relax. Masuda is sagged in his chair, saying he didn't want to kill the man. Koushon signs, removing a strange pair of glasses that he fiddled with throughout the interview and declares the Inquiry over. Amon rises, telling Robin to follow, as Masuda sits before Koushon with his head bowed, murmurring "I didn't mean to kill anyone..." Amon and Robin discuss the Inquiry later as they do survelliance detail outside of Masuda's apartment complex. Robin is surprised that Masuda put up with the Iniquiry, but Amon replies he only did so at the church and it cleared the evil intentions from his heart--at least, according to Koushon. "Everyone has some amount of evil in their heart," Robin comments. "That may be true, but there is a difference between grey evil and pitch black evil," Amon answers. Before Robin can continue, Amon spots Masuda leaving his apartment and notifies Michael. Michael warns them to be careful while pursuing Masuda. Masuda wanders around the downtown area while Amon and Robin follow him in the car. As she watches him, Robin has a flashback of herself dressed as a nun in Italy, stopped in the middle of a dirt road and gazing at something. "Overwhelming power will guide people to eternal darkness," Koushon tells the young witch during Robin's inquiry. "That's why we need a person with lots of endurance." "The one whose power awakens must endure any treatment received from others?" Robin asks. "If that person wants to keep on living in this world, that is." Koushon replies. "But in the end, that's impossible. When asked by Robin what they should do, Koushon tells her, "You should already know. You must throw away everything and entrust everything to us." "I didn't ask for a witch's power," Robin calmly informs Koushon. "Then why do you use that power?" Koushon retorts. Robin is at a loss for words as she murmurs that she doesn't know, looking off to one side. Something catches her eye, and she looks back over to where Koushon sat, only to find the chair empty. Robin snaps back into the present by listening to Michael telling Amon that Masuda hasn't had a stable job for nearly two years. Amon is surprised, and comments that Masuda's Craft started to appear around that time. Michael is in disbelief, and Amon replied that Solomon purposely made him detached from society--and would go that far just to get a new hunter. Koushon eats freshly made Ramen at a street vendor's cart. He takes notice of the black car passing by. Masuda leaves a convenience store after buying some food. As luck would have it, he walks by three punks crouched outside of the store who are playing with a cell phone. One is griping about how high his phone bill is this month, and comments that he wishes he could find a wallet filled with money on the ground as he watches Masuda walk away. A little while later, the gang jumps Masuda as he eats dinner in a park. They take turns kicking and beathing him, while Masuda asks them what he has done to upset them. Amon notices the fight, sensing something isn't right with the situation, and stops the car. The "barrier" set on Masuda's power (from the card Koushon slid to him during the Inquiry) finally breaks as he struggles to keep from attacking the gang, murmuring that they drove him to use it as he begins to crush the leader. Robin yells for him to stop and tries to tell the others to run away. The other two men start to run after watching their friend get "vaporized" by Masuda's power, calling Masuda a monster. He crushes and vaporizes another man after Amon attempts to distract him. Robin (now wearing her glasses) looks over at Masuda. "You're..." Amon sits up and fires several Orbo bullets towards Masuda, but he stops from before they can even scratch him and uses his Craft to knock the gun out of Amon's hands. He starts to crush Amon when Robin uses her Craft to light a flame in front of him. "Is it that much fun to crush people?" Robin asks him. Her mind flashes back to the rune Koushon found earlier in the episode. "A fallen angel..." she whispers, as she gazes at Masuda. Masuda starts to attack Robin, but she deflects it using her own Craft. "I won't forgive you..." she whispers before incinerating Masuda, using her Craft with a magnitude that Amon had never seen her display before. A single tear falls down her face as she watches Masuda burn. Koushon turns around to see Robin's work, with a pleased look on his face. Zaizen explains to Amon later that the stone monument Koushon visited before the Inquiry is something left behind from a martyr who had been betrayed by his followers--a Witch. Zaizen asks about how Robin is doing, but Amon does not respond. Amon asks if there is something about Robin he should know about, but Zaizen says nothing. Robin walks up to Koushon as he finishes putting away his inquiry equipment. He tells Robin that he is leaving Japan that night, and that they will probably never see each other again. "You seem to have finally awoken as well," Koushon tells Robin as he walks away. Robin takes a few steps forward. "What do you mean?" Koushon faces Robin quickly for the last time and replies, "The pleasures of using the Craft." "What are you talking about?" Robin asks silently. "What are you... Inquisitor?" Amon is shocked by something Zaizen tells him (off-camera). "Robin is...?" [ED]
