She is wearing her glasses. Robin lifts her head and opens her eyes. As the camera pans behind her, we see the trench is lined with candles. Suddenly, Robin turns around and candles on both sides of the trench within her line of view are lit up. She turns around and does the same to the candles at the other end of the trenchway. She turns her head to one side, lights up a candle, then turns to the other side and does the same. She hears a noise of a camera turning, and faces it. The rest of the STN-J group sits around Michael's desk, analyzing and watching Robin. Michael tells the group her accuracy is 98 percent in merely 105 of the total distance. Haruto whistles as Amon comments that they can now use her in their work and tells Michael to send her home. Michael replies that Robin would like to do more. Amon thinks for a moment, then says to tell Robin to hold off as thunder sounds outside. [OP] Robin sits down on her scooter near a cliff at dusk and sighs. She looks around, then down at the gages on front of her scooter, saying that she thought she would make it home with what fuel was in there. Thunder crashes, and a drop of rain hits one of the side view mirrors as Robin looks up at the sky. As the rain begins to pour down, Robin wonders aloud about what to do. A car rounds the corner, and Robin watches as it comes closer to her. Seconds later, Robin is in the car, telling the driver that she saved her at the last moment. The woman replies that she's glad because it takes more than an hour to get back into town and tells Robin she shouldn't have been wandering around alone due to the strange incidents in the area lately. Robin looks surprised, and asks "Is that so?" The driver begins to explain to Robin the details, then changes her mind and tells her she is going to lecture "Miss Absent Without Notice" (sound like someone we know?), adding in that the girl should quit if she doesn't want to work. Driver: Working is proof of your existence to society. You have to work hard for them to accept you. There's no way a life could be so complete without that. Robin says that she understands that part. The driver looks over at her and giggles. Robin, confused, asks if she said something funny. The woman apologizes, explaining that she didn't think she and Robin would agree on anything. She pulls up to Touko and Robin's apartment building entrance. Robin thanks her. The woman hands Robin her own umbrella, telling her to take it and her business card so she can return it whenever she can. Robin thanks her again and leaves her car, watching as the woman drives off. She reads the card and says "Yano Eiko, eh?". The scene fades into a small apartment, where a young girl off-camera complains about being weary, adding in that she skipped work and will be yelled at. Eiko replies that Chie has nothing to worry about, since anyone who picks on her will never be forgiven. The girl thanks Eiko. The doorbell rings just as the girl starts to speak, and Eiko answers the door. Standing there is a strange girl. Chie begins to wash dishes as Eiko leans against the table. Eiko berates her about missing work and asks her why she has done it for the second time this month. The girl merely says "Yes". Eiko asks her if there is something wrong, and the girlreplies, "No... it's just boring", adding in that she does "boring work". Eiko defends the girl's job by saying she is confusing the means with the ends, and that hard work will land her an acceptable job. The girl says nothing, and Eiko becomes annoyed. She approaches Chie, grabs her by the shoulder to turn her towards her and tells her to stop. The girl drops the dish in fear as Eiko demands to know why she washes dishes during their conversation. Chie replies, "I thought it would be rude if they were dirty...". Eiko sighs and bends down to pick up the broken dish as she snaps at Chie to be "more responsible", since it will become "[her] problem" if she doesn't. Chie merely responds, "Yes." A shard on the far side of the room begins sliding away. Eiko turns to face where the dragging sound is coming from, and Chie asks if something's wrong. Eiko replies that she heard something. Both look in the same direction and see nothing. Eiko looks suspecious and turns around to pick up the pieces. Later, Chie says she is ready to leave. Eiko tells her to come to work on time tomorrow, and she replies "Yes". Eiko drops Chie off at her apartment building and drives off. Chie stands by the street, watching Eiko's car drive off, then turns around to walk inside. Eiko drives down a main road, playing with her hair. She notices something, and turns her rear view mirror towards her. Then, she sees the sillohette of a young girl holding an umbrella behind her. Surprised, she turns around to see if the girl is really there, and loses control of the car. She slams the car into a pillar holding up the interstate. Robin walks past the guard, holding a red can, with him exchanging "Good morning" with her. Robin says asks him to let her leave the can next to him, and he says it isn't a problem, asking if it's for the Vespa, her scooter. Robin says replies that it is, and picks up the paper he is reading. The guard asks her if she wants a ride to her scooter, but she ignores him, focusing on the article and printed pictures about the accident the night before. Robin runs off, saying she needs to borrow the paper, leaving the guard quite confused. Hattori and Kosaka enjoy a cup of tea ask Haruto walks up, asking if they have nothing to do. Impatiently, Kosaka asks Haruto if there is something he needs to say, and to say it clearly. Haruto replies that it is nothing. The three overhear Michael telling Robin some of the information about the accident, saying that it was a normal car accident based on the inspection of the scene the day before. She asks Michael to find some more information on it, and Haruto asks about what happened. Robin replies, "It's only a minor thing" as Kosaka comes up to the group and asks the same thing. Robin again replies that it is nothing, and runs into Amon on her way out. She tells Robin that she wants to get her vespa and the two of them leave. In the car, an annoyed Amon says this is the first and last time he will do this favor for Robin. Robin sits quietly as he starts to say she's 10 years too early to use him as a chauffeur, then asks him to change their destination. Amon stops and asks Robin, "What?" The two investigate the accident scene as Karasuma walks up to join them, asking why they gave her a personal call. Amon apologizes as Karasuma complains about getting little sleep and their involvement in an accident case. Robin says she knows it isn't a case for STN-J, but explains she that she only wanted to find out how "she" died. Karasuma snaps that her job isn't to "satisfy [Robin's] curiosity", but to hunt witches. Amon interrupts her tirade and tells her to do it, if only to quiet Robin and her childish selfishness. Karasuma bends down and places her hand on the ground, trying to sense something. Robin asks her what she feels, and Karasuma replies that she feels "extreme surprise" of an unknown origin. Robin asks her what caused it, and Karasuma irritatedly replies that she doesn't know, guessing a cat did it. Robin says that wasn't it, due to the lack of tire marks on the street or proof brakes were used, and that Eiko's neck wound bothers her. Karasuma suggests that Eiko was looking at something else as she drove, smashing through the windshield to cause the neck injury. Amon comments that humans die easily. Robin stands up and asks Amon to take her to see the lady Eiko last saw before she died. Karasuma tells the two to do whatever they like, since she is going home and wishes Amon good luck. At the young woman's door, Amon says he didn't know Robin was so devoted. Robin says nothing and rings the doorbell twice before Chie answers. Inside, Robin explains that she was to be Eiko's sister-in-law, since Amon was Eiko's boyfriend and her brother. Amon gives her a strange look. Robin continues telling the girl how depressed Amon has been since Eiko's death, and Amon continues giving Robin the "What the hell are you on?" look. Robin asks Chie if she and Eiko discussed any strange things the day before. The girl is confused, and Amon asks if maybe they discussed someone having a grudge against Eiko. Chie says she isn't sure, since Eiko was a good worker and pretty. Robin asks her if she's sad, and the girl asks her why. Robin says she Eiko was her boss, then stops. A strange silence falls over the room, then the girl stands up and says she needs to go to work, as Eiko snapped at her for being late yesterday. Robin begins to say something, but Amon cuts her off and apologizes to Chie. On the way back to Raben's Flat, Amon asks Robin if she is satisfied with the result of her investigation and wants to know why it is so important to her. Robin replies that she feels something is odd with the girl. Amon replies that she had an alibi, as her landlord saw her tell Eiko goodbye. Robin says that while her alibi may be true, the girl is still odd. Amon changes the subject, mentioning that he doesn't mind picking up her Vespa. Robin realizes that she left the fuel can with the guard. As she towards the guard to get her fuel can, he tells her that Michael wanted to see her when she got back. Inside, Robin sees Doujima, Haruto, and Karasuma crowded around Michael's station. He says he found out many things for her. Haruto wonders if the chief will notice all of them inside the meeting room. Doujima replies, "Who cares?" Michael says the information he found is on Chei, the girl Robin and Amon met. Karasuma says they shouldn't be doing such a detailed search into her background, as it is invading her privacy. Michael cuts her off. MICHAEL: If I had to choose rules or curiosity, I'd choose the second one. Michael pulls up a CAT-scan of Chie's brain. He explains that she had a concussion and the scan was taken during her stay in the hospital. He points to an scattered area of the brain scan, explaining to the group that the scattered area of Chie's brain is a distinctive feature of multiple personality disorder; however, Chie has never had or been known to have a separate personality. Doujima asks if she's been living a normal life without any hinderances, and Michael says "I guess so". Karasuma tells them to stop divulging Chie's personal information to everyone, as it has nothing to do with their case. Robin states Chie is a witch. Karasuma asks her how she knows and to explain how she came to that conclusion. Robin says she can't explain it. Karasuma gets upset and says Robin shouldn't assume every strange incident is the work of a witch, since a mistaken arrest can get STN-J into serious trouble. She finishes by saying Robin is just eager to use her ability, which is why she assumes all of this is the work of a witch. Robin gets upset and asks Karasuma if she ever has the urge to use her own ability. Their arguement is disrupted by Kosaka barging in, upset that the group was busy finding information without permission--an abuse of their authority, despite it being STN. Kosaka tells Amon that, as their leader, he should know better and demands to know who started it. Robin replies in a firm voice, "I did. I asked them to do it." Kosaka, shocked that *Robin* was the culprit, says she's just tired from her job and should go home for some rest. Robin begins to argue, when Amon tells her to do as he says. Kosaka claps his hands and tells the group to get back to work. As they leave the room, Doujima complains that all their research was starting to get interesting. Haruto says it's strange for Doujima to take such an interest in her work. Doujima asks him if he has more respect for her, which Haruto answers with a "Yeah right". Amon and Michael lag behind, as Amon asks Michael how far he checked into Chie's family tree. Michael replies, "Up to a relative in the third degree." Amon tells him to look higher--to the sixth degree. Michael says that would be an abuse of their authority, but Amon asks, "Rules or curiosity, which one are you going to pick?", adding that if he finds a witch in the girl's lineage, he will tell Michael about a "wicked site". Michael agrees to do the research. [EYECATCH] Robin measures out some oil to place into her Vespa. Standing with her is the guard. When asked what she is doing, Robin explains that her scooter requires mixed gas. The guard replies that it must be a pain in the neck. He places the red can back into his car, tells Robin he will be heading back to Raben's Flat and to be careful. After he leaves, Robin starts up her scooter and looks around, saying she needs to hurry home, as it begins to rain. As she rides down the road, she thinks about her last conversation with Eiko and Chie, and comments from Amon and the rest of STN-J. She starts to speed up after recalling Karasuma's comment on how Robin is burning with desire to use her ability. During the elevator ride back to the office, Michael tells Amon that he found a witch relative of Chie's, and something else. Amon asks what other information he came across, and Michael tells him that her boyfriend died three years ago from an unnatural death--from a severed Achilles tendon and artery. Amon comments that it's a strange way to die, and Michael explains that her boyfriend was a playboy, but Chie was left alone during the investigation. She also seemed to have a solid alibi at the time. Amon's eyebrows lower, and he apologizes for making Michael do all of the work. Michael asks for the "wicked site", but Amon says he'll tell him when "[Michael becomes] an adult". [Author's Note: PORN! IT WAS PORN, I TELL YOU! ERM, anyway...] Amon breaks into Chie's apartment, and walks in. The snowy, inverted color image of a girl flashes on screen, then goes back to Amon looking around in the apartment. He bends down to look at a doll, then hears a swishing noise. He turns around and opens a paper door. He looks around the room and sees numerous dolls along the walls of the small room. He sees a strange box on the floor, and bends down to get a closer look and starts picking up various pieces that have scattered. One piece under the bed starts moving away... Robin sits in her apartment, waiting for some water to boil in a kettle with Touko as she warms herself up and dries off. Suddenly, the flames to the gas stove go out, and Touko gets up to relight it. Robin uses her Craft to relight it, and Touko yells at her, telling her never to use it again in the house. Robin is hurt, but Touko says she is honest and starts serving the two of them. She asks Robin if she has ever heard of the law of conservation of mass, and Robin says no. Touko explains that the water in the kettle decreases as it boils, but the excess water goes into the air as vapor. She says that Robin's feeling of being deceived is hidden, like the water vapor, and hasn't disappeared. Robin stands up, saying the feeling is psychological and willl believe in what she believes more than the feeling of deception. Amon walks out of Chie's apartment, saying his search ended in failure and walks off. Inside the doll room, many voices mumble, "I won't forgive, I won't forgive, I won't forgive...", as one doll extends a knife. As Amon leaves, Chie receives a phone call from someone saying they are in trouble. The voice tells her that Amon came around the apartment, so she needs to come home immediately. Chie agrees. While Amon is driving, one of the dolls he took with him extends her knife. Amon hears it, and looks around to see the doll behind him, holding the knife and saying she won't forgive him. She starts to spin and flies past the side of his face, knicking him. Amon hits the brake of his car, and looks around for the doll. He jumps out of the car and opens one of the back doors to shoot the doll, but notices she escaped from the other side. He says, "I see... that is what this is all about." [AN: Thus ends Amon's adventures with the psycho doll from Hell.. ^.~] Robin walks up to Chie's apartment door, and notices that it is cracked open. She opens it wider, saying "Excuse me..." before walking in. She walks into the "doll room" and looks around. She walks over to one of the dolls and picks it up. She turns to face a doll floating in mid-air, holding a knife. The dolls says they won't forgive anyone who discovers their secret, and the others chant in "We won't forgive, we won't forgive, we won't forgive..." The doll, Jeanne, flies towards her, but Robin dodges and sets her on fire. Chie walks in that moment, screams at the sight of the burning Jeanne, and desperately tries to put her out. Robin walks into to watch Chie as the other dolls float around her, telling Chie to kill Robin to avenge Jeanne's death. A knife floats in front of Chie's face and before the girl can grab it with her teeth, Amon shoots her. Amon tells Robin to burn the dolls, as they are a part of Chie. Robin sets them on fire. Robin walks out of the apartment, followed by Amon carrying Chie. The three of them look at the burning dolls, and Chie runs back in to save them. Robin tries to run after her, but is stopped by Amon. The two of them watch as the entire apartment catches on fire as Amon says it is too late to save Chie. Back at Raven's Flat, Hattori, Kosaka, Haruto, and Doujima count the charred remains of Chie's dolls. They only manage to find 49, and Kosaka says that Amon's report claims there are 50 dolls altogether. Haruto asks where the last doll could be, and Doujima replies that it could be anywhere. The four of them start arguing over whether it makes a difference, since Chie died, while Robin watches them. Karasuma comes up to her and tells her she did a good job, but Robin says she didn't because someone she knew died. ROBIN: If someone you know dies, it's very sad. I wanted to forget that. But she was different... she was not concerned. I just wanted to believe that the death of someone disturbs people's minds. Later on, Robin stands on a bridge, using Eiko's umbrella and holding her card. She remembers Eiko telling her to return the umbrella later, and says she's sorry she was unable to return to her properly, dropping her card into the river. She looks up to see Amon walking across another bridge with Touko and watches them walk together in the rain... [ED]
